PLANO, Texas – August 15, 2023 – EV Tech, a national provider of EV Chargers, installation and service, and Front Half, LLC., announced today that a pair of high powered EV Chargers were installed at 1332 N. Interstate 35 Frontage Road in San Marcos, Texas, adjacent to the Texas Bean & Brew House. The EV Charger installation marks the completion of the first phase of electrification development on the 5.58-acre property. Future efforts will include two additional EV Chargers with four available ports, as well as rooftop solar panels, large-scale battery storage and a gas turbine to create a fully integrated microgrid.

The two EV Swift 1009 models installed on the property offer 21 kW charging using 240v power output, or the equivalent of a full recharge in 1.5 to 3 hours for approximately $0.39 per kW. Both units offer two ports for unattended, autonomous charging for up to four EVs. Drivers simply scan the QR code to pay, charge and review their charging status on their Apple or Android smartphone. The EV Swift is currently double the charging speed of approximate chargers that offer between 6kW and 10kW charging. The EV Swift 1009 is watertight for outdoor use and includes 4G, ethernet and WiFi connectivity.

“We’ve lived in the San Marcos area since 1975 and our family has owned the property on I-35 for 25 years,” said Gretchen Van Kleef, general manager, Front Half, LLC. “Over the years we’ve slowly been improving and upgrading the property, and in 2019 we leased the property for commercial use to a local favorite, the popular Texas Bean & Brew House. Like many other parts of Texas, the San Marcos area is growing, and we felt it was important to support the growing number of EV owners. Installing chargers as a part of our development was a logical step in preparing the property for transition to the next generation in our family.”

The next phase of site development will include the installation of two DC Fast Chargers capable of a 15 to 30 minute EV charge. Additional upgrades will include installation of rooftop solar panels on existing RV pad sites on the property, large-scale battery storage and a gas turbine to create a fully integrated microgrid. An additional property owned by the family in the San Antonio area is also being considered for EV upgrades and electrification.
